Apr 26, 2024

BARTLETT, TENN, – Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett will host a free bike safety event for the community on Saturday, May 11 from nine a.m. until noon on the hospital’s grounds.

The goal of the event is to help promote bike safety by supplying free helmets to all children in attendance on a first-come, first-served basis. The Bartlett Police Department will be on hand to share bicycle safety tips.

“We at Saint Francis Bartlett are a community built on care—committing to providing exemplary care, working to lift the collective health of our residents and partnering with the community on various initiatives,” said Sherwin L. Stewart, DSL, CEO of Saint Francis Bartlett. “This event is an extension of that commitment, and we hope to make it an annual one.”

Glenn Swanson, Director of the Emergency Department at Saint Francis Bartlett, who spearheaded the event said, “We want to keep as many kids as possible safe this summer by providing an easy way for parents to obtain a bike helmet. Nearly 87 percent of children who suffered skull fractures from bike accidents were not wearing a helmet, according to data from The American Academy of Pediatrics.”
