Saint Francis Healthcare Continues Free Community Heart Age Screening Program
Jan 11, 2017Screenings help determine risk of heart disease
(January 11, 2017 - Memphis, Tenn.) Saint Francis Healthcare is pleased to announce upcoming dates for free heart age screenings, which will be provided again this year at the Memphis and Bartlett hospitals. Provided free to the public, these screenings will help individuals determine their risk for heart disease by identifying their heart age number. Heart age is a number that measures your cardiac risk level. It is based on your blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides.
Screenings will be held monthly with the location alternating between the campuses of Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis and Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett. The 2017 screening dates are:
Thursday, January 12 – Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis
Friday, February 10 – Saint Francis Hospital – Bartlett
Tuesday, February 14 – Saint Francis Hospital - Memphis
Thursday, March 9 – Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis
Friday, April 7 – Saint Francis Hospital - Bartlett
Thursday, April 13 - Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis
Thursday, May 11 - Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis
Friday, June 9 - Saint Francis Hospital - Bartlett
Thursday, June 15 - Saint Francis Memphis
Heart age is a simplified measure of your risk for cardiac disease and is based on blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. These in-depth screenings will measure all of these factors. Participants will then be able to meet with an on-site cardiologist to review the results of the screening.
The most common reasons for an older heart age can generally be managed through exercise, changes in diet, medication and lifestyle changes. They include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and diabetes. Making changes to reduce cardiac disease risk can result in a younger heart age score.
Last year, Saint Francis introduced this program to the community and provided free screenings to more than 1,600 people. By knowing their heart age, many of these participants were able make lifestyle changes to improve their heart health.
